2012 VIC Aeropress Champs

On Wednesday the 7th of March '12, Seven Seeds hosted the first Victorian
Aeropress Championships.

We had a great turn out.... Thank you all for coming and a special thanks
to the 18 competitors for your hard work and supreme showmanship.

The competition was judged by Tim Varney (Tim Wendleboe, Norway),
Felipe Croce (Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza, Brazil) and Jason Scheltus
(Market Lane, Melbourne), with USA cup tasting champ Ben Kaminski
(Ritual, San Fransisco) holding the post of Head Judge.

The competition ran in 6 rounds of 3 competitors, then 2 semi final
rounds of 3 followed by a final Aeropress battle between our 2 finalists.

Congratulations to winner Aiden of Ora Cafe (Kew) and runner-up Jamie
of Three Bags Full (Abbotsford).  Aiden will be attending the World Aeropress Championships on
April 19th in Portland with 17 other competitors from around the globe.

The Aeropress is a great brewing method which is also light and easy to clean (that is, great to travel with!)  In the Aeropress comps we are making longer black filter coffee which is clean with a delicate body, but the great thing about this brewing method is that with the right tweaking you can produce short shots much like a stovetop.  This will suit those looking for something richer which will welcome the addition of milk.  You can pick up an Aeropress at each of our stores for $49.
