Seven Seeds is the larger of our cafes and also houses the roastery where Seven Seeds coffee is produced. Seven Seeds takes its name from the precious cargo which Baba Budan smuggled out of Yemen and into India during the 17th century. By strapping seven seeds of fertile coffee to his waist, Brother Budan broke through the tightly regulated system which had, until then, kept coffee cultivation within the confines of the Arabic world. Because of Baba Budan and his determination to spread coffee around the world, we are now able to source beans from the Americas, Africa and Asia.
Located just north of the CBD and close to Melbourne University and Victoria Markets, Seven Seeds cafe is a large space within a converted warehouse. We serve coffee from the roastery in a variety of forms, including through our two new La Marzocco Strada espresso machine and using filter methods such as Pour over, Aeropress and Cold Brew.
We have a new Summer menu that runs all day and includes a Jalapeño French Toast with chorizo, chilli, sour cream and coriander, poached eggs with a rich tomato chutney and grilled ham, and a Char Siu pulled pork baguette with chipotle aioli.
We offer a complete range of retail items including Hario pourover ceramics, the Aeropress full-immersion brewing system, and milk jugs. Our friendly staff will also assist you in choosing coffee beans to take home, including single origin coffees which we have directly sourced from locations around the world.
On Wednesdays at 9am and Saturdays at 10am we also host a free public cupping session. A cupping is a procedure for tasting coffee in which different lots are judged in terms of taste, body and aroma. Our cuppings are relaxed and educational, during which one of our expert roasters will take you through a tasting of single origin coffees from around the world. We will also lead you through different processing methods and varietals of coffee which in turn produce different flavour notes. Bookings are not necessary, but it is handy to arrive 15 minutes beforehand so that we can fit everybody in.
