Jose Candanedo

WHERE I'M FROM
This fully washed geisha is grown in the hills of Boquete Panama, a region renown throughout the specialty coffee industry as growing some of the best and most expensive coffee in the world. Jose Candanedo is the producer of this coffee and his family has a long history in coffee production in Boquete. His farm is new, and this varietal was added to his coffee farm 6 years ago. This is the second year of production and although the trees are still young, the cherries are producing the complex floral flavours that have made the geisha varietal famous around the world.

Please note: if you need this coffee ground, please add the grind type to the notes section when you check out.

PRODUCER
Roberto Suarez

WHERE I'M FROM
We first tasted Roberto Suarez’s coffee back in 2015 when we won a micro lot through the Best of Panama auction, and we have been lucky enough to secure 25kgs of this exclusive coffee once again. Third generation coffee farmers, the Suarez family, have been growing coffee in Boquete since the 1900’s. Geishas from Panama are highly sought after. The Geisha variety is a low yielding coffee tree, which can produce complex flavours and aromas of bergamot, stone fruits and honey. This coffee is no exception to that rule.

Please note: if you need this coffee ground, please add the grind type to the notes section when you check out.

PRODUCER
18 Small Scale Farmers

WHERE I'M FROM
Harvested in March, this juicy coffee comes from 18 small-scale producers from the region of San Rafael, located 26km north of Jinotega. As shade is essential for the quality of this coffee, the coffee trees grow under a canopy of Guaba, Bucaro and Musaseas trees. This helps slow the maturation of the cherry, and the parchment is dried in 100% shade on raised beds at Beneficio La Estrella. Drying the parchment under shade prevents it from cracking under the harsh sun.

LaRue Family

WHERE I'M FROM
The La Rue family have been farming on this northern patch of Nicaragua since the 1980’s. The family lost possession of the farm during the Sandista Regime, however the farm was returned back to them in the early 2000’s, but in a deplorable condition. To help the survival of the farm, it was divided amongst the siblings of the family. The family continues to live at the farm, which has grown into a socially and ecological family business.

Kenyan coffee farmers in the Kirinyaga County own around 180 coffee trees each, often mixing the SL28 and SL34 varieties. Tabi

PRODUCER
Victor Barrera

WHERE I'M FROM
We have been lucky to secure only 25kg of this beautiful coffee, a varietal which was originally developed by Cenicafe combining Timor Hybrid, Typica and Bourbon. Farmer, Victor Barrera chose to plant this rare varietal on his farm for many reasons. Tabi’s resistance to disease, the plants architecture itself and the result in the cup are to name but a few.

Despite the relative comfort of harvesting Tabi over more traditional Colombian varieties, Victor pays his pickers considerably more to ensure that only the ripest possible fruit makes it into his wooden hopper before getting processed.

We want to express our appreciation to Victor for this special coffee and the effort and experience that has gone into producing it. So $5.00 per bag will go back to Victor at the end of this year's harvest.

*If you would like your coffee ground, please state this and what for in the notes section at the check-out *

ABOUT THE LABEL
Here at HQ we have been working with the very talented Marty Baptist to create a series of limited edition coffee labels. The first of the series hit shelves this week and can be found adorning our second Kenyan coffee for 2017. From Queensland, Australia, Marty Baptist’s work has been featured nationally and internationally, and his paintings are a mix of astute observations and out loud thoughts. His imagery ranges from oblique pop culture references to loose figurative observations. Check out Marty's Instagram for more of his work.
