Brazil, Luiz Japonez
TASTES LIKE Wild Honey, Redcurrant, LycheePROFILE Sweet & Complex
Our first purchase from this producer, a Japanese native, Shuishi Nishioka, who moved to Brazil with his family when he was four. He received the playful nickname, Luiz Japonez, and after receiving permission we followed suit in naming this coffee. Relatively new to farming coffee, Shuishi decided that the unique growing conditions of Piatã would make it the best growing region in Brazil. Still a experimental size, he’ll look to increase production in the coming years & is also growing papaya & cocoa.
We determined a sustainable, profitable price for the growing longevity with the producer. We’ve listed the FOB (Freight on Board) price that we paid to AgriCafe, and within that, the Farmgate price - what Shuishi directly earned for his coffee as parchment. On top of FOB, we then shipped this coffee to Melbourne, complete quality assessments, roast (resulting in a 15% weight loss), & retail it, adding significant costs & risk. You can read more about the way we source coffee via our website.
Compare the different trading models to see what Shuishi would have received if they hadn’t sold to Seven Seeds.
