Henry Homero Belarcazar Delgado’s Finca La Palma—”the palm”— sits between 1,850 and 2,000 m.a.s.l in the vereda of La Loma and spans a total of one hectare, all which is planted with coffee. He’s a hard working and dedicated producer, who’s quality was recognised by Azahar’s regional quality manager for Nariño, Jairo Muñoz. Jairo comes from a coffee-producing family from the nearby municipality of La Union, and carries out field visits and workshops in distant areas such as Los Andes-Sotomayor and has begun fostering lasting relationships with smallholder producers like Henry.
Sotomayor, also known as Los Andes, is located in the northern sector of central Nariño, in the sub- region (Nariño is broken up into thirteen sub-regions) of Guambuyaco. North of this region, crops turn from coffee to cacao, and even further armed guerillas who control thousands of hectares of illicit crops found in this area of the department. Climate change, and de-forrestation are also creeping upon the region - here’s to the tenacity & dedication of Homero & other growers to keep producing brilliant coffees.
