Gathaithi was a stand out coffee in Australia IN 2017 & 2018. Think grape fanta, honey sweetness & long almost didn’t taste like coffee. So we froze a small amount of the 2018 crop, to showcase before the Kenya season kicks off in 2019. Seven Seeds visited in January 2018, at the end of the main harvest, to meet with Factory Manager Peter Karienye (pictured overleaf). We talked through processing, the pre-financing opportunities available to farmers, and sustainable farming practices. The Gathaithi Coffee Factory in Nyeri county, purchases cherry from 1250 smallholder farmers in the surrounding area. Wedged between Mt Kenya and Aberdare ranges, the mineral rich red-volcanic soil and good rainfall create rich conditions for two cropping seasons a year.

Buying Coffee in Kenya, The Auction

The Auction system dominates coffee buying in Kenya. Since 1934, the Nairobi Coffee Exchange has operated the trading of coffee, with a government mandate to seek greatest value and sustainability of the industry. Small & large coffee producers alike are able to sell their best coffees side-by-side. Cooperatives like Gathaithi employee an agent to sell their coffee at the auction, in this case, CMS. Seven Seeds engages C. Dorman, a coffee exporter, to purchase on our behalf, after receiving samples.

Australian Deliveries - We roast to order and aim to dispatch within 48 hours. 
International Deliveries - We dispatch once a week, on Wednesdays.
Orders placed after 12pm Tuesdays (Australian time) may not ship until the following week.

We roast and ship Monday – Friday from Melbourne, and offer standard & express shipping options at the checkout. 
Domestic (Melbourne --> the rest of Australia) 
Domestic orders are shipped using the Australia Post Parcel Post, or Express Post. Standard Shipping may take up to 6 business days for interstate metro deliveries. Your tracking number will be emailed to you directly from the shipping partner when your order is dispatched. Please ensure you provide a valid email address and contact number.
International (Melbourne --> most countries)
All shipping is with Australia Post Express Courier. Please allow 2 - 5 days for delivery. You will receive a tracking number from Australia Post when the order is dispatched. Please ensure you enter a valid email address. Please note there can be service disruptions; which Seven Seeds cannot bear responsibility for. It is your responsibility to provide a secure and attended delivery address. We do not ship on public holidays or weekends.
