ABOUT

It's a real honour to be able to provide this truly unique coffee for a limited time. Franklin Chinguel is a young producer whose coffees have become quite famous over the last years. He participated in CoE several times with a lot of success and even made 1st place two years ago (participating under his mother's name). His farm is located in La Coipa, on the opposite side of the valley from Chirinos (about 1.5 hours from Jaén). Franklin had initially been under the impression the variety he was growing is one of Costa Rican origin. A result of a genetic analysis conducted at World Coffee Research labs indicated that the coffee is genetically most similar to 74110 - a variety created in the 70's at the Jimma Agriculture Research Centre (JARC) in Jimma, Ethiopa! It's difficult to imagine how this variety could have gotten to this region.
