FRENCH PRESS / PLUNGER

French Press/Plunger is a versatile way to brew your coffee. This style of brewing - known as immersion - helps to eliminate some of the variables at play when compared with drip filter or espresso methods and is well suited to coffee enthusiasts who prefer more body in their cup. It’s also a nice tidy way to make your coffee with minimal equipment required.

BREWING TIME

Brewing time is the total amount of contact time between the ground coffee and the water.

French Press/Plunger requires a 4 - 5 minute brewing time.

BREW RECIPE

Use a starting point ratio of 6g - 7g per 100 mLs of water. If you like a stronger coffee, explore adding an extra 2g - 3g of coffee per 100 mL of water.

GRIND SIZE

Grind size is how fine or coarse your coffee beans are ground.

For French Press/Plunger brewing start with a medium-coarse grind size.

TEMPERATURE

Set your kettle to 100 degrees and pour water into the French Press/Plunger straight off the boil. Very hot water will help to extract the most flavour from your coffee and works well with our style of roasting.

MAKING ADJUSTMENTS TO YOUR RECIPE

For a brew with bigger body and more intensity, explore adding an extra 2g - 3g of coffee. A finer grind size will also achieve this.

If you prefer brighter coffee with less intensity, reduce the amount of coffee by 2 - 3 grams, brew for slightly less time, or use a coarser grind size.
