El Limoncillo Javanica, Nicaragua

$28.00

Java is one of the original Ethiopian varieties, and in the hands of the Mierisch family, it’s developed a wild, tropical, and complex character.

Sourcing

PRODUCER: Mierisch Family

RELATIONSHIP: First year of purchasing

ORIGIN PARTNER: Finca Mierisch

Java, or “Javanica” as it’s known in Nicaragua, has one of the most unusual origin stories in the Mierisch family’s coffee collection.

Doctor Mierisch and his son, Erwin II, were driving home from the farm when they spotted a man selling fruit on the side of the road. They stopped for a quick purchase—and noticed the man had a bag labeled “Java.” Curious, they asked about it. The man claimed the bag held seeds of a rare coffee variety called Java. Erwin was skeptical, but the Doc felt for the man and decided to buy the seeds anyway.

As it turns out, the man wasn’t bluffing—it really was the longberry Java variety. They suspect he may have once worked at a nearby coffee nursery that had gone bankrupt, a place known for its research and experimentation.

And just like that, Java found its way to Nicaragua.

Transparency

2018 marked a statement of intent for us, to ensure that people growing exceptional coffee are still doing so in decades to come.

We started publishing the price we pay to producers exposing the traceability they deserve and discerning drinkers' demand as the new norm. We refer to the most direct payment as ‘Farmgate’.

We’re proud we can publish this for our single origins and house blends.

Seven Seeds has been involved with the Speciality Coffee Transaction Guide as data donors for the past five years. We have signed 'The Pledge', a commitment to transparency in coffee trading.

Roasting and Shipping

We roast our coffee from Monday to Friday, but not every type each day. We aim to ship orders within 1-2 business days.

Roasted coffee reaches it's peak 5-14 days after roasting and stays fresh for up to 30 days. We may send coffee roasted a few days earlier.

The Roastery and Head Office are closed on weekends and public holidays; we do not roast or ship these days.

Thanks for understanding and happy brewing!
