Important Update - December Shipping

Following the Black Friday sales and ahead of the Christmas rush period, we are seeing delays with freight through Australia Post.

Unfortunately this is due to the volume of parcels in their network and it is outside of our control.

We will continue to send orders within 1-2 business days as always. For urgent coffee needs, we recommend ordering for pick up from our Fairfield Roastery or visiting a Seven Seeds Cafe.

Peaberries are often prized for their more intense flavor profile due to their denser cell structure.

Sourcing

PRODUCER: 790 small producers

RELATIONSHIP: First year of purchasing

ORIGIN PARTNER: KenyaCof

Gatina Washing Station sits a few kilometres outside the town of Karatina in Nyeri County. The station was built in 1968, nestled between the western slopes of Mt. Kenya and the eastern slopes of the Aberdares mountains. It is managed by Mugaga Farmers’ Cooperative Society. Today, the station receives cherry from 790 members. Of those, over 30% are women. Small farms are common in the region, with most just a few hundred trees. This means that farming families can more easily apply specialty coffee cultivation techniques, if they so desire, gaining better returns for higher quality cherry.

Peaberries_(PB) are the result of natural mutation occurring in approximately 5% of all coffee cherries. Where there are usually two beans nestled together, fruit with a_peaberry_mutation only forms one bean. Thus, peaberries are a single, rounder bean._Since_peaberries_are a natural mutation that is not visible from the outside of the cherry, these must be_sorted out during the screen grading stage_of_dry_milling, quite often being prized for a more intense flavour profile - A result of denser cell structure.

Transparency

2018 marked a statement of intent for us, to ensure that people growing exceptional coffee are still doing so in decades to come.

We started publishing the price we pay to producers exposing the traceability they deserve and discerning drinkers' demand as the new norm. We refer to the most direct payment as ‘Farmgate’.

We’re proud we can publish this for our single origins and house blends.

Seven Seeds has been involved with the Speciality Coffee Transaction Guide as data donors for the past five years. We have signed 'The Pledge', a commitment to transparency in coffee trading.

Roasting and Shipping

We roast our coffee from Monday to Friday, but not every type each day. We aim to ship orders within 1-2 business days.

Roasted coffee reaches it's peak 5-14 days after roasting and stays fresh for up to 30 days. We may send coffee roasted a few days earlier.

The Roastery and Head Office are closed on weekends and public holidays; we do not roast or ship these days.

Thanks for understanding and happy brewing!
